Nigeria will face Denmark in the quarter final of the Rio Olympics men’s football event in Salvador today, August 13, but they may be without their star player Oghenekaro Etebo.
This follows report that the attacking midfielder may not be in action against the Scandinavians due to a hamstring injury he sustained against Colombia in the team’s last outing.
A scan on Thursday, August 11, confirmed that Etebo has torn a muscle and may miss today’s game and the rest of the tournament should Nigeria make it into the next round.
Many had questioned Siasia’s decision to play the CD Feirense player in the match versus Colombia as the team’s had secured top spot in Group B, but the 42-year-old will be looking to put smiles back on the faces of Nigerians when his team come up against Denmark tonight.
The match at Fonte Nova Arena is the second meeting between the teams in the space of two months. Emil Larsen netted three times to ensure Denmark thumped Nigeria 6-2 in the Suwon tournament in South Korea in June.
However, Samson Siasia will hope that John Mikel Obi’s leadership will guide the team  victory against Denmark despite not having any advantage over the Danes.

True Hero

– Sam Okwaraji slumped and later died of congestive heart failure during an active service for the nation
– Okwaraji was a shining example for the muddle cuddled, materialistic and egotistic modern day footballers
– The icon’s patriotism went beyond simply representing his country
– Lack of Federal government recognition is simply disgraceful
Okwaraji was a true national hero who lost his life during an active service for the nation, slumping and later suffering untimely death from congestive heart failure in the 1990 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Angola at the national stadium, Surulere, Lagos with 13 minutes left to play on 12 August, 1989.
The autopsy report revealed that he had an enlarged heart and high blood pressure, reminiscent of Marc Vivien Foe’s demise in similar circumstances in 2003.
For this especially, along with other patriotic acts, the trendsetting law graduate and enigmatic midfielder was a worthy legend in every sense. The example he gave paying for this own flights to Nigeria for Super Eagles matches without asking the then Nigeria Football Association for refunds are lost on the modern day muddle cuddled, materialistic and egotistic players.
Short but vibrant history
Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji was born on 19 May, 1964 in Owerre-Umudiaka, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo state, South Eastern Nigeria.
He became the most educated Nigerian footballer with his qualification as a lawyer with a masters degree in international law from the University of Rome.
Acquisition of masters degree was challenging enough, talk less of combining it with football. It certainly was no mean feat – a rare endeavour in the history of the round leather game. He played for NK Dinamo Zagreb, VfB Stuttgart and SSV-ULM1846.

The national role model made his international debut in 1988, and later selected in the team that represented the nation in the African Nations Cup, where he scored one of the fastest goals in the history of the Championship against Cameroon. The solitary but memorable goal he scored for his beloved country he was only able to feature for eight times.
His patriotism went beyond just simply representing his country. Demonstrated by an occasion where he defended the right of his beloved nation not to pay for his services when Nigeria was asked to pay gating fee of $45.000 by his club SSV-ULM1846.
He reportedly stormed into his manager’s office saying “I am a lawyer and you know. I signed to play football for certain conditions but I don’t think it included reselling my services to my country. You or your club cannot stop me from playing for my country whether you like it or not.”
Federal government neglect/remembrance
It has become a national blemish for our heroes to be forgotten, and only remembered on death anniversaries. It beggars belief that Sam Okwaraji’s patriotism and the fact that he lost his life whilst on national duty failed to be recognised by the federal government is not only quite simply disgraceful but also laughable.
The least the federal government could have done, in fact the NFF too, would have been to ensure that all players are adequately insured against any such occurrences or any medical emergencies when players are representing their countries. This is yet to be realised.
Former Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola once said “Literally, Sam was ready to die for his country and i believe that before he died, and the circumstances leading to his death.” at the unveiling of a concrete bust in front of the national stadium where he died, on the 20th anniversary in his honour.
Others have wax lyrical, including musicians like Oliver de Cogue and General Kollington Ayinla who composed songs in honour of his patriotism.
Sam Okwaraji, you may not have been accorded a befitting remeI mbrance by the government of the country you served so patriotically, your devotion and sacrifice sure linger on in the heart and mind of the citizens of Nigerian.

Tragic Incident of a Corper

Rivers state operatives have arrested five people on suspicion of having abducted and killed a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Sampson Worlu.
According to Vanguard, the gang allegedly killed the hostage after having collected a ransom of N1.5 million paid for his release. Sampson had served in Imo state before his abduction in Rivers.
However, the suspects were tracked and nabbed by the men of the Rivers state Department of State Security. All the five are facing charges at a Port Harcourt magistrate court.
The victim’s brother, Charles Worlu, narrated that the kidnappers had made their family pay the ransom twice: first one million naira and then five hundred thousand naira. But they never returned their relative. Now all the family wants is justice, Charles says.

Ramsey Noah:I live and beg under the Bridge

Ramsey Noah: ‘I lived Under Bridges, Begged For Food In Lagos – Actor reveals
Posted by administrator
The Nollywood ‘lover boy’ said his journey to stardom proves that there is no shortcut to success but through hard work and determination.
Nollywood actor, Ramsey Noah, has spoken on his experiences growing up, including having to live under bridges and beg for food in Lagos.
The actor who can now be classified as veteran, has had very bad experiences before he got to stardom, experiences that were painful and distressing, making sure that he has now tasted two sides of the coin.
The Nollywood ‘lover boy’ said his journey to stardom proves that there is no shortcut to success but through hard work and determination.
In a chat with Stargist, the handsome actor recalled how he once lived under the bridge while growing up with his mother.
“I lived on the streets and in a store which could accommodate a mat with my mother. My mother and I squeezed ourselves in that mat.
“Those were the times when things got really bad for my mother and I and we had nothing. It was so bad that we didn’t have a home to live in. We didn’t even have a cup to drink water, talk more of a stove to cook on. My mother had to borrow, beg and stuff like that.
“Those moments, those terrible moments we had nothing and we were living off people. People were just helping us out. There were times we didn’t have food to eat three or four days. You haven’t eaten and your stomach is rumbling but you don’t have any place to go.
“It was unfortunate that there were no records so that we can have memories we could play back now. To me, I am so extremely grateful that I went through it. At that time, I hated everybody around me. In fact, I used to question why God was doing this to me. But I think God knew that I needed this for my future”.
The father of two added:
“These were moments when I was young. I didn’t realise the gravity of poverty we were in”
There have been far more appalling success stories but it never makes the experience any easier to forget, but makes one appreciate the present even more.
Noah has now qualified for this with his perseverance and grit.

New Tested Robot pizza Delivery

Domino’s new trial pizza delivery robot in New Zealand is just under a metre (three foot) high and contains a heated compartment that can hold up to 10 pizzas. (AFP Photo/)
Fast food giant Domino’s is to trial pizza delivery robots in New Zealand, it said Friday, describing the hi-tech, driverless units as a world first.
In a move enthusiastically backed by the New Zealand government, Domino’s said it was working with authorities on plans to roll out its DRU (Domino’s Robotic Unit).
The four-wheeler, developed in Australia, is just under a metre (three foot) high and contains a heated compartment that can hold up to 10 pizzas.
It is battery powered and uses on-board sensors to avoid obstacles, with Domino’s saying it can deliver pizzas within a 20 kilometre (12.5 miles) radius of a store before returning to recharge.
Customers are given a code when they order, which they enter onto a keypad to unlock the compartment containing their pizza.
“DRU is cheeky and endearing and we are confident that one day he will become an integral part of the Domino’s family,” the chain’s New Zealand general manager Scott Bush said.
“He’s a road to the future and one that we are very excited about exploring further.”
While a date for the trial is yet to be finalised, Transport Minister Simon Bridges said the government working with Domino’s on the project and was keen for it to proceed.
“This is an exciting opportunity for New Zealand… over the last 12 months I’ve been actively and aggressively promoting New Zealand as a test bed for new transport technology trials,” he said.
New Zealand is still working on regulations relating to driverless vehicles such as the DRU, which is designed to operate on both roads and footpaths.

Agatu Genocide:Lawmakers blast President Buhari

– Some members of the Benue parliamentary caucus in the House of Representatives raised alarm over bloody attacks of Fulani herdsmen
– They also blasted President Muhammadu Buhari for downplaying the “genocide” happening to the Agatu people
– The lawmakers wondered why the federal government has not made public the report of the investigative panel
Some lawmakers raised alarm over the “genocide” happening to the Agatu people in Benue state.
Some members of the Benue parliamentary caucus in the House of Representatives have raised alarm over bloody attacks of Fulani herdsmen and strongly criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for downplaying the “genocide” happening to the Agatu people in the state.
Vanguard reports that 11 lawmakers condemned Buhari and Abdulrahman Danbazzau, the minister of interior, while briefing journalists on Thursday, March 17.
“A genocide that typical of the Nigerian state has been downplayed or ignored until it spirals out of control. After the Agatu mass massacre, a few headlines were recorded, a few sympathetic comments in high places but concrete moves to stop the killings have not been made.

“We decry the lukewarm attitude of the federal government towards this ‘jihad’ being waged against our people by the herdsmen. We condemn the belated reaction of President Muhammadu Buhari and his minister of interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazzau (rtd) who broke their unholy silence a week after over 500 people were killed and 10 villages razed in Agatu area of the state,” they said.
The lawmakers wondered why the federal government has not made public the report of the investigative panel and has not inaugurated it in the first instance.
They lamented that every planting season is heralded by serial attacks by Fulani herdsmen who also return during the harvesting season.
Earlier this week, Dambazau promised to deal decisively with the perpetrators of the killings in Agatu community. He also ordered the inspector general of police, Solomon Arase, to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the communities.
Meanwhile, Senator David Mark visited some parts of Benue state in the aftermath of the Agatu killings.
He called on local people to refrain from any form of reprisal attack on herdsmen in any part of Benue south district to prevent an escalation of the crisis between Fulani herdsmen and Agatu farmers. He also urged the state and federal governments to intervene by rebuilding the war ravaged communities as well as rehabilitating the survivors to resume their routine farming business.

Madaki said that although the bank had the power to recruit, other laws of Nigeria stipulates that such recruitment must be subject to approval by other relevant authorities.
He said there was a clear case of non-adherence to the principles federal character as enshrined in the country’s constitution, a conclusion he said was predicated on available data on the recruitment exercise.
“This recruitment was done secretly without due advertisement carried out. The principles of fairness, equity and justice as enshrined in our constitution was not respected in the recent exercise by the CBN.
“Sometimes last year when members of the public got wind of the secret recruitment exercise, the CBN came out and, outrightly denied any such recruitment or planned recruitment.”
The move by the House of Representatives comes on the heels of discovery showing how the CBN unlawfully hired a daughter of former vice president Atiku Abubakar, a nephew of President Muhammadu Buhari and many others relatives of top officials.
The leaked document shows a list of people tied to powerful or highly placed Nigerians, who were recently proposed appointments.

James Ocholi Taught Us The Meaning Of Loyalty
How do I begin to pay this tribute to a man who was the epitome of civility, the archetype of intellectualism, and the paragon of loyalty? How do I begin to mourn James Ocholi, whom you can describe as one of my right hand men in the quest to reposition our country, and fashion a land of peace and prosperity, where no man is oppressed?
A lot has been written about Ocholi since the tragic event of March 6, 2016, which took the life of our Minister of State, Labour and Employment, his wife, Blessing, and his son, Joshua. And a lot more will be written, for Ocholi was no mean man.
He was a man among men, an Iroko in a forest of trees. How are the mighty fallen!
Among many other positive and pleasant things, I will always remember Ocholi for his loyalty to our beloved country Nigeria, loyalty to our party, the All Progressives Congress, and loyalty to our administration, in which he had served for just about 4 months, before death took him.
In 2011, Ocholi ran to be governor of Kogi state on the platform of our then party, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). I believed so much in him, and in his ability to add value to the governance of his state, that I followed him round the state on campaign. We visited all the local governments, visited the paramount rulers, and urged the people to vote in a worthy man as governor. But politics is a peculiar game in Nigeria. The best often does not win.
Ocholi did not win. But he bore it gracefully.
In 2015, he threw his hat into the ring again. He sought to be governor on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), a party he had helped midwife.
He still did not win at the party primaries, an eventuality he bore gracefully again.
When the APC was being negotiated into existence among the Legacy Parties, Ocholi did a yeoman’s job, contributing his quota to the legal processes. This he did under a junior lawyer, who was not a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) like him then. But what mattered to Ocholi was the birth of a strong, solid party, which could wrest power at the centre, and bring change to our country.
Hierarchy is important in the legal profession, just as it is in the military. But Ocholi subordinated pride and ego, served under his subordinate, and APC was born.
Dream became reality.
Steadily but sure-footedly, he was part of the Change Cabinet, resolved to bring our country from out of the woods, and pedestal Nigeria among the greats in the comity of nations.
Then the unthinkable happened. The Grim Reaper harvested Ocholi. What a pity! Sad and tragic. But we have this consolation: the departed has taught us fidelity, commitment and loyalty to party, to government, and to God.
He will be sorely missed.
